ROMANIA: Internet Penetration Stands at 12% in Villages

Only 12 percent of Romania's villages and 75 percent of its towns and cities have a website, Romania's Communication and Information Technology Minister Nagy Zsolt said during the Home in EU -IT&C Conference in Targu Mures, ACT Media news agency reports.
To come to the small public administrations' aid, the Communication and Information Technology Ministry (MCTI) designed a portal for their websites, Minister Nagy said.

MCTI aims to increase in one year to 40 percent the number of Romanian localities connected to the internet and a local budget amounting to tens of thousands EUR is already allotted for that, Nagy added.

We have launched national tenders this autumn we are preparing the biddings. We are to launch the project by end 2006, Minister Zsolt said.
